I decided to create this blog to share some of the great books I read with others who share my affinity for all things noir. I feel that there are many sites that offer plot summaries, so I rarely include a full summary of a book. Instead, I will offer my thoughts on the author’s style of writing and overall impressions of the book. I rarely, if ever, post about books I didn’t enjoy. I find that I rarely finish books I am not really enjoying and it is unfair to review a book I didn’t finish. I hope you enjoy the site and welcome feedback on the books I review.

    1. I sent you an email and have not heard back as of today. I am very interested in communicating with you, so if the email did not arrive, please comment here and I will send you my contact information.

  1. It occurs to me that you might enjoy my odd little book, Down Solo. May I send a copy? It’s short. If you’re entertained, a few lines would be appreciated.

Dan Fante, author of Point Doom
“Another awesome mystery. Check it out.”

      1. Don’t know if I lost you with Down Solo, but a sequel is coming out next week. “Earl Javorsky’s Down to No Good is wildly original, wildly energetic, wildly funny – it’s just straight up wild, and I mean that in the best possible way.” Lou Berney, Edgar Award-winning author of The Long and Faraway Gone.
Happy to send. All I ask is a three-page read; if I don’t have your attention by then, pass (I take no hostages.)
        High hopes, no expectations.

  2. Hi

I’m not sure who you are, but I just wanted to say a big thank you for the review you posted for my book When the Music’s Over. I was blown away to see what you’d said, thank you for your kind words

  3. Hi,
Many thanks for your great review of All Due Respect Issue 7. Also, many thanks for the kind words you said about my story Histories of the Dead.

  4. Hi,

seeing as you enjoyed and were kind enough to write a few words about my story in All Due Respect 7. I wondered if you’d be interested in reading and if you enjoy it writing a few words about my Noir crime novella “The Whistling Sands”. If so, please let me know and I’ll send you a free kindle version.

  5. You reviewed my crime novella, Dark Water, in March 2015. I own a small press, ELJ Publications, LLC, that is mainly literary, but I recently started up a crime imprint, Dark Passages Publishing, in August 2015, which only publishes novellas from 15,000-35,000 words in length. I have 2 titles currently published with several more on the way for 2016. I’m curious as to whether or not you’d consider reviewing any of our titles. If so, will you accept a PDF copy of the book? I appreciated your review of Dark Water and think these two, along with many of the future novellas, may be of interest to you. Please visit http://www.darkpassagespublishing.com for more information. I look forward to hearing from you.

  6. Hey: You reviewed my first novella, REDBONE, and I was really appreciative of your thoughts. I have a new novella out (from a different press) and would love to send it to you for possible review. Can I contact you some way with the mobi file? Many thanks, Matt Phillips

    1. Hey Matt,

Thanks for the offer. Funny thing is Chris Black from Number Thirteen Press reached out to me with a copy. I will give it a read int he near future and if I like it, I will put out a review over on Out of the Gutter online (That is where I have been reviewing books for the past few months).

      All the Best
